CSR Scientific Training student, Demi Beddow, graduates with distinction.

Demi Beddow, a Chemistry technician, has worked at the Birmingham Assay Office for six years and has gained five industry qualifications since joining.  The most recent being a distinction in HND Level 5 Laboratory Scientist Occupational Standard.

For Demi, studying her HND was the key to advancing her career and learning the skills enabling her to grow within the laboratory at the Birmingham Assay office.

The Analytical Lab forms part of the Birmingham Assay Office and offers a wide range of testing and certification services and independent expert analysis across a range of sectors.  In recent years, the most significant development is AnchorCert Pro, a test that identifies and measures in metal articles a suite of elements that may cause allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). The only known testing method that can do this in one single test. The UKAS accredited test offers a solution to growing concerns about the prevalence of ACD, particularly concerning metal-induced allergic reactions.

Demi said: “My qualification will allow me to progress further within the Birmingham Assay Office and has allowed me to expand my knowledge in the science industry.

I love working in the laboratory, especially being surrounded by supportive colleagues who have given me continued encouragement during my course”.

Michelle Cartwright, Laboratory Operations Manager, said: “I’m so proud of Demi’s achievements she has worked hard since joining us.  It’s been great to see her confidence grow over time.  She is a much-valued member of our team.

I am an advocate for employing Apprentices within a business. Demi is proof that learning whilst doing the job is a brilliant way to progress and benefit for the employer.”
